Real Madrid and Benfica faced off Wednesday, February 25, at Santiago Bernabéu Stadium for the second leg of the 2025-26 Champions League playoffs. With Vinicius Junior once again finding the net alongside Aurélien Tchouaméni, Los Blancos punched their ticket to the Round of 16.

Needing at least one goal to force extra time, Benfica started fast and struck in the 14th minute. After a cross from Vangelis Pavlidis, Raúl Asencio deflected the ball toward his own net, forcing Thibaut Courtois into action, but Rafa Silva pounced on the rebound inside the box to open the scoring.

The visitors’ lead didn’t last long. In the 16th minute, after a layoff from Federico Valverde, Tchouaméni struck first time with a superb finish to level the match. Already ahead on aggregate, Vinícius sealed the win with a composed finish off another Valverde through ball, celebrating with a dance similar to the one that stirred controversy in the first leg.

The match ended 2-1 (3-1 aggregate), sending Real Madrid through to the Champions League Round of 16 after a series filled with tension and drama. Next up, Los Blancos will be drawn against either Sporting CP or Manchester City.
